Stora Enso is happy to let you know that the future is looking renewable and full of promise. Fibrease® is our bio-based, sustainable, flexible and lightweight wood foam material, designed to replace fossil polymer foams in the packaging industry. Protecting goods while helping you lower your carbon footprint. Fibrease® by Stora Enso is the result of innovation – and our goal to make thermal packaging sustainable. 

From material sourcing and energy consumption to waste and end-of-life-management – the industry’s reliance on non-renewable sources has to end, and everyone is aware of it. Made of wood fiber from sustainably managed Nordic forests, Fibrease® is designed to reduce both plastics and waste in modern packaging solutions.

Making the switch to renewable resources 

Fibrease® is a composite material, suitable for insulation purposes in medical shipments, life science, meal kit deliveries, online grocery sales – or as cushioning and void fill when transporting fragile goods. All while reducing plastic materials with at least 80%. The flexible and resilient material has a soft memory foam like behavior similar to PU-foam, fitting various types of conversion methods like sawing, die-cutting, waterjet cutting and laminating. Fibrease is recyclable in paper and board streams in certain geographies. Our aim is to prove recyclability across all geographies. Turning to sustainable materials does not have to entail compromise and our demo samples show great promise. 


Fibrease® is the future of thermal insulation and lightweight cushioning, reducing plastics and waste while helping eco-conscious brands promote their sustainable narrative.
