A regenerative future

Ultimately, Stora Enso’s aim is to provide and promote products that remove more carbon than they emit and promote biodiversity.

Stora Enso’s strategy and focus is premised on actively contributing to mitigate climate change and halt biodiversity loss. Our long-term ambition is that all our products and solutions are 100% regenerative by 2050. This means renewable and fully circular products and solutions that help reduce climate impacts by sequestering more carbon than they emit as well as supporting biodiversity preservation and restoration.

Our framework is informed and guided by the Planetary Boundary concept, developed by climate scientists at the Stockholm Resilience Centre and refers to nine core environmental processes, within which humanity could continue to thrive for generations to come.

Our regenerative principles

  • Maximising value: using the right materials in the right way
  • Producing climate and biodiversity positive products and services
  • Driving circular, transparent material flows
  • Creating a fair and just system for people

We are constantly working to innovate our offering and business models, adopting the regenerative principles from the machine room to new product and service design and the best use of virgin and recycled fibers. Through partnership and cooperation, we are creating and supporting dialogue and action to better shape the climate and nature systems.
