An integrated approach for sustainability

With our forests at the foundation, Stora Enso offers fiber-based, renewable solutions and focuses on three areas where we believe we can have the biggest impact and opportunities: climate, biodiversity, and circularity.

Together with our customers and partners, we drive our innovation agenda towards replacing, substituting, or displacing fossil-based materials. We create renewable and circular solutions from sustainably managed forests. Our purpose is to “Do good for people and the planet”. This underpins our commitment to accelerate the transition to a circular bioeconomy to combat climate change, safeguard natural resources, and have a positive impact on biodiversity.

Our ambition and targets
Our ambition is to offer 100% regenerative solutions by 2050, with products that are fully circular, remove more carbon than they emit, and support biodiversity preservation and restoration. This is supported by intermediate targets for 2030 as well as our commitment to net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.

  • For climate, Stora Enso’s target is to reduce absolute carbon dioxide emissions 50% by 2030 from the 2019 baseline, both in its own production and within the value chain.
  • We have additionally reinforced our climate commitment by joining The Climate Pledge initiative, with the aim to achieve net-zero carbon emissions across all three Scope categories.
  • For circularity, the target is to achieve 100% technically recyclable products by 2030.
  • We aim to achieve a net positive impact on biodiversity through active biodiversity management in our forests and plantations.

Our foundation
Throughout our operations, communities and markets, we continue our work to ensure that we conduct our everyday business in a responsible manner and impacts from our value chain are proactively managed.
